October Branch Meeting: The History of Paparazzi – The Big Picture

With the recent furore over topless royal image, the looming conclusions of the Leveson Enquiryand the collapse of Big Pictures, we are delighted to have two photographers to discuss “The History of Paparazzi – The Big Picture”.

Solidarity with the New York Times

The London Photographers’ Branch (LPB) of the National Union of Journalists (NUJ) extends solidarity with the hundreds of trade unionist at The New York Times and the New York Newspaper Guild in your continuing negotiations with management.

Pay Up Big Pictures

The NUJ has called on Darryn Lyons to pay out what is owed to staff and to freelance photographers who licensed their work through Big Pictures.

The Big Pictures photo agency was put into administration after running into financial difficulties but the new company set up is still connected to Darryn Lyons. Read the rest of this article »

LPB Sexism in the Industry DM Motion

The following motion was passed unanimously at the 2012 NUJ Delegate Meeting in Newcastle.

This DM notes with concern women photographers’ reports of sexism and bullying in the industry.

Women are woefully underrepresented. According to a National Photographic Council survey last year women represent only 17% of the news gathering industry.

Photographers, men and women, complained of a ‘boys club’ mentality, which excludes women, especially when they try to establish themselves in the industry. Read the rest of this article »

LPB Production Order DM Motion

The following motion was passed unanimously at the 2012 NUJ Delegate Meeting in Newcastle.

This DM notes with alarm the increase use of Production Orders by police to seize photographs, footage and audio recordings made by professional journalists at public order events such as the student protests, the 2011 summer riots and the Dale Farm eviction. Read the rest of this article »
